Atlanta Hawks Notes, Quotes 2008-03-15
--It's taken a while, but Mike Bibby is clearly getting more comfortable with his teammates.

"He's having to learn in games because we don't have a lot of practice time," Joe Johnson said.

More impressive is that Bibby's 14 assists Friday came in just 24 minutes of action.

"Bibby was spoon-feeding everybody tonight," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "That was very nice to see."

--In the third quarter when the Hawks started to slip into some lethargic play, Johnson warmed things up. He scored 21 of his 28 points in the period as the Hawks opened a 28-point lead.

"It was just a rhythm I got into," Johnson said. "They had some miscues on a couple of switches, and I got some wide-open looks."

In the third quarter, Johnson made 7-of-9 shots from the field, including 6-for-6 on three pointers.

--Mike Woodson was elated that the team didn't kick away its hard work as the Clippers never cut the lead below double-digits. When the Clippers did cut the lead to 11, Johnson stepped forward.

"Joe caught fire," Woodson said. "We were just solid. Sometimes you have to have games like this. We haven't had too many games where we've been able to rest our starters in the fourth quarter."

The lead ballooned to 32 points in the fourth quarter as Woodson emptied the bench in the fourth quarter. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak.

--Joe Johnson played only 33 minutes and got some much-needed rest after playing 45 minutes on Wednesday. Josh Smith, who finished with 25 points, played only 33 minutes.

"It feels good to sit out basically the whole fourth quarter and rest our bodies," Smith said. "We haven't had a game like this in a long time. Everything was clicking."

--The Clippers defeated the Hawks 95-88 in the only previous meeting this season. Al Thornton, who scored 33 points in that Jan. 30 game, was held to 18 points.

"If we can defend like we have the last couple of games, we'll put ourselves in position to win some games," Woodson said.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "From what I hear, we're OK. They're checking the roof right now in one corner, but everything looks fine so far." -- Hawks spokesman Arthur Triche, on the damage done by the tornado that ripped through downtown Atlanta during Friday's win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
