Atlanta Hawks Notes, Quotes 2009-02-03
--Hawks forward and self-appointed football expert Josh Smith weighed in with his prediction for the Super Bowl before the Hawks played the Bucks.

And while he's not necessarily a huge fan, he has no doubt the Pittsburgh Steelers will leave the field in Tampa victorious.

"I'm going with the Steelers all the way," he said. "I think their pass rush is going to rattle Kurt Warner. And once you get to him that allows those Pittsburgh defensive backs to do their thing. I'm predicting a big game for (Steelers linebackers) James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley off that edge. They're going to be the guys that determine the game."

--Charlie Bell's half-court buzzer beater to end the first quarter put the finishing touches on yet another disheveled first 12 minutes for the Hawks.

They gave up 14 points in the paint and got thoroughly outplayed in the frontcourt; the Bucks' frontcourt scored 18 points to the Hawks' four.

It was a precursor for the tsunami ahead, as the Hawks would eventually trail by 18 points before halftime, a lead they chewed into before the break but a deficit they could not come all the way back from.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's good to have them back. But the rest of us have to play as well. It can't just be those two guys doing all the heavy lifting." -- Marvin Williams, on Joe Johnson and Mike Bibby being back to their usual selves on the offensive end.
