--Flip Murray's return after a two-game absence wasn't enough to lift the Hawks to a victory in Portland. But it was the boost Hawks needed after playing without their super sixth-man against the Lakers and Kings already on this road trip."It's good to have him back," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "He had a death in the family and that's always tough to deal with. But now that we have him back with us, we have to help him heal and also make sure he's back in tune with what we're doing."
Murray finished with 17 points in his first game back since a breakout performance in a win over Detroit before All-Star Weekend.
--Othello Hunter went down earlier in the week. Now Thomas Gardner has joined him with the Hawks' D-League affiliate in Anaheim.
The decision to send both players to the D-League for some work has been in the pipeline for weeks. The Arsenal having games in California the same time the Hawks are on the West Coast for an extended trip allowed for things to work out the way the Hawks wanted.
A chance to get both players some live game work was invaluable since they weren't going to get that kind of preparation sitting on the bench in street clothes every night with the Hawks.
