Atlanta Hawks Notes, Quotes 2008-03-21
--The Hawks got monster efforts out of their entire starting five. All-Star and captain Joe Johnson led the way with 24 while rookie C Al Horford finished with 20 points, 16 rebounds and six assists. Josh Smith finished with 20 points and three blocks before fouling out late. Marvin Williams and Mike Bibby scored 15 each. But after scoring 70 points in the first half, the Hawks couldn't find the bottom of the rim often enough.

"I think we just started missing shots," Smith said. "We tried to fight through it but we just gave up too many lay-ups. And this is a game we should have won to separate ourselves and we just didn't get it done. Because if we would've gotten stops of any kind we'd have had a 13 to 15-point cushion and won this game."

--The first 12 minutes of the game were as exciting as any the Hawks have played all season. The combined 72 points probably didn't excite either coach, but from the Sean Williams dunk that kicked things off to Johnson's 70-footer at the buzzer, there was simply dazzling play for dazzling play from both teams.

The Nets shot an astounding .737 from the floor (14-for-19) while the Hawks shot .700 (14-for-20). The Hawks' starters scored all but two of their 35 points in the quarter, while the Nets got all 37 of their points from their starting five, including a combined 31 from Vince Carter, Devin Harris and Richard Jefferson.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "They're all huge now. Every single second of every minute of every game we play is a must-win moment for us." -- Coach Mike Woodson, on the Hawks' remaining schedule.
