Atlanta Hawks Roster Report 2009-01-23

Atlanta Hawks Roster Report 2009-01-23
ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard Mike Bibby, Shooting guard Joe Johnson, Small forward Marvin Williams, Power forward Josh Smith, Center Al Horford. Bench -- Guard Flip Murray, Guard Acie Law IV, Guard Mario West, Guard Mo Evans, Guard Speedy Claxton, Forward Thomas Gardner, Forward Othello Hunter, Forward Solomon Jones, Forward/center Zaza Pachulia, Center Randolph Morris.

PLAYER NOTES:

--C Zaza Pachulia stepped up in a major way against the Bulls, scoring half of his 18 points after halftime to help the Hawks rally for a crucial road win without two starters. Pachulia's value is soaring in the eyes of many because of the way he has accepted his role as the utility man in the Hawks' frontcourt rotation.

--F Josh Smith topped Pachulia, scoring 10 of his 17 points after halftime and adding 14 rebounds along with that scoring output to pace the Hawks on both ends of the floor inside. Chided about his ineffective rebounding performances in recent weeks, Smith has grabbed 29 in his last two games to silence his critics.

--G Flip Murray had a another solid night off the bench for the Hawks, providing the only real scoring punch with 13 points and offsetting Mo Evans' lack of production (two points) in his role as the substitute for Marvin Williams. Murray is actually better off the bench as the change of pace scorer that Evans simply is not.

MEDICAL WATCH:

--F Marvin Williams is day-to-day after suffering concussion in Friday's loss at Golden State.

--C Al Horford is out day-to-day with a bone bruise in his right knee.

--G Acie Law is out seven-to-10 days with a right quadriceps contusion.
