HOW SHELDEN BECAME A HAWK: Selected by the Hawks with the 5th overall pick (first round) of the 2006 NBA Draft. 2007 SUMMER LEAGUE: Named to the Rocky Mountain Revue All-Tournament Team after averaging 15.8 ppg (5th in the Revue), 9.0 rpg (2nd) and 1.3 spg (7th) in 31.2 mpg (4th), hitting .487 FGs and .633 FTs in six starting assignments. LAST SEASON (2006-07): Was named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Rookie of the month for April, after tallying 11.6 ppg, 10.6 rpg, 1.8 spg, 1.1 apg and 0.9 bpg (.588 FG%, .649 FT%) in 30.4 mpg of nine games • Wrapped up the season averaging 5.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 0.6 spg, 0.5 bpg and 0.5 apg in 18.7 mpg (.455 FG%, .764 FT%) • Led all first-year players in rpg and double-doubles (eight), also ranking 5th in off. rpg (1.6), 7th in FG%, 8th in FT%, 10th in spg and bpg, and 19th in ppg • Played in a team-high 81 games, and in his 31 starts, averaged 7.9 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 0.9 spg and 0.8 bpg (.505 FG%, .789 FT%) • 4th on the club in FT% and rpg • Scored a career-high 21 pts in the season’s final game (4/17 v/Ind) • Pulled down a career-best 17 rebs @Milw (4/16), in a career-high tying 41 mins • Grabbed 10-plus rebounds on 11 occasions, and scored in double figures 15 times • Played in the first 47 contests of the season, before missing the 2/7 contest v/NJ due to flu-like symptoms (one game on the inactive list) • SEASON HIGHS: 21 pts v/Ind (4/17/07), 17 rebs @Milw (4/16/07), 3 assts (2x), 4 stls @Den (12/6/06), 3 blks (2x), 41 mins (2x), 9 FGM v/Ind (4/17/07), 1 3FGM (2x), 6 FTM (3x). COLLEGIATE CAREER: A four-year starter at Duke, Williams finished his career as only third player in NCAA history to record 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds, 350 blocks and 150 steals (along with David Robinson and Pervis Ellison) • Duke's career leader in blocked shots (422, 5th in Atlantic Coast Conference history), blocks per game (3.04, 6th), and rebounds (1,262, 6th) • Fifth in school history in career field-goal percentage (.572), and 12th with 1,928 career points • Owns career averages of 13.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.2 steals (.578 FG%, .691 FT%), starting 128 of 139 games • Named First Team All-America by AP as a senior (2005-06), the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, as well as to the All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament First Teams • Averaged 18.8 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, 1.7 steals and 1.1 assists (.578 FG%, .744 FT%) in 36 games • Set the single-season school record for blocked shots with 137 • Led the conference in rebounding and blocks, while finishing 3rd in scoring and FG%, and 10th in steals • Recorded the third triple-double in Duke history with 19 points, 11 rebounds and career-high 10 blocks v/Maryland (1/11) • Tied his career-high with 30 points v/Memphis (11/25) and set a new career-best with 19 boards v/Virginia Tech (12/4) • As a junior (2004-05), named NABC National Defensive Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year • Second Team All-America by SI.com and Third Team All-America by AP after averaging 15.5 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.7 blocks and 1.3 steals (.582 FG%, .662 FT%) • Also First Team All-ACC and First Team ACC All-Tournament • Led the conference in rebounding and blocked shots, was 2nd in FG%, and 11th in scoring • Became the first player under Mike Krzyzewski to average a double-double over the course of a season • Tallied 12.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks (.586 FG%, .690 FT%) as sophomore (2003-04) helping the Blue Devils to the NCAA Final Four • A third team Basketball Times All-America and honorable mention All-America by AP • Garnered second team All-ACC honors, and was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team and ACC All-Tournament Team • Led Duke in blocked shots (first in ACC) and rebounding (third) • Started 23 of 33 games as a freshman (2002-03), averaging 8.2 points, a team-best 5.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks (.516 FG%, .625 FT%) • An ACC All-Freshman honorable mention • Finished fourth in the league in blocks and 10th in rebounding.
