Knicks-Cavs 82-118 I Harrington 20pts,7reb vs James 21pts,6ast,5stl
Description:
CLEVELAND, December 3,2008(AP) -- If
this keeps up, LeBron James will never
leave home. James scored 21 points and
then grabbed an early seat on the bench
as the Cleveland Cavaliers improved to
10-0 on their own floor for the first
time in their history and won for the
14th time in 15 games, 118-82 over the
tired and tired-looking New York Knicks
on Wednesday night. Wearing replica
wine-and-gold uniforms from their 1970
expansion season, when they played at
dingy Cleveland Arena, the Cavaliers
built a 42-point lead in the second half
and breezed to their sixth straight
blowout win. They also remained the
Eastern Conference's only unbeaten team
at home. Cleveland opened 9-0 at home
in both the 1976-77 and 1991-92 seasons
at Richfield Coliseum, their home before
moving to Gund Arena, now called Quicken
Loans Arena. Despite their tremendous
start, James and his teammates are
keeping things in perspective. "We're
going to stay humble, and play every
game like its our last,'' said James,
who answered the latest round of New
York-centric questions about his
free-agent future before the game. The
36-point margin of victory was
Cleveland's largest in 171 games against
the Knicks. The Cavs, who have won
their last nine games by at least 11
points, improved to 15-3 and continued
the best start they've ever had. Right
now, it doesn't matter where they
play. "They're really good
everywhere,'' Knicks first-year coach
Mike D'Antoni said before his team was
rocked by Cleveland for the second time
in a week. Mo Williams added 16 points,
Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 14 points and 10
rebounds, and none of Cleveland's
starters played more than 28
minutes. Al Harrington scored 20
points, Anthony Roberson had 19 and
David Lee 16 with 16 rebounds for the
short-handed Knicks, who made 28
turnovers one night after losing at home
to Portland. "This is the thing you run
into when you run into a good team
without any gas in your tank and it
showed,'' said D'Antoni, who hasn't had
a full complement of players because of
trades and injuries. "Things just
unraveled.'' The Cavs were so
efficient, James didn't even play in the
fourth quarter. He was pulled with 2:33
left in the third quarter but still
managed six assists, five rebounds, five
steals and made 10 of 10 free throws
before kicking back and cheering on
Cleveland's backups, who manhandled New
York, too. The Knicks, eyeing James as
a free agent in two years, must be
wishing they could jump in a time
machine and transport themselves to
2010. Along with injuries and the circus
surrounding guard Stephon Marbury's
dismissal from the team, New York played
the second half without starting guard
Quentin Richardson. Late in the first
half, Richardson was slapped with two
quick technicals and ejected by referee
Rodney Mott. Somewhere, assuming he was
watching, Marbury must have smiled at
seeing Richardson get tossed. After
all, it was Richardson who had
criticized Marbury after a recent game
in Detroit, when with Marbury in street
clothes, the Knicks were forced to play
short-handed. "I don't look at him as a
teammate because teammates don't do
that,'' Richardson said. "I think
everyone was frustrated,'' D'Antoni
said. "I think you get frustrated when
you're tired.'' The only moment of
concern for the Cavs came in the third
quarter when James was pulled down by
Harrington on a breakaway. Streaking
through the lane, James was about to
take off for a dunk when Harrington
wrapped him up and sent him sprawling
awkwardly to the floor. Harrington was
assessed a flagrant-1 foul and James,
after watching a video replay on the
scoreboard, made both free throws to
give the Cavs a 67-35 lead. "If you
don't foul him like that, he'll go right
through you and lay it up,'' Harrington
said. "Me and LeBron are good friends.
He knows I wasn't trying to hurt him. I
just didn't want to get one of those
highlight dunks, you know what I'm
saying? I had to stop that.'' Following
the game, several of the Cavs lingered
in the shower area, savoring another
easy win. Team chemistry is
soaring. "It's at an all-time high,''
James said. "No one puts themselves
before the team and the feel is really
good right now. But it's early. We don't
want to get too high on ourselves right
now.'' Notes: Cleveland hosts Indiana
on Friday. ... The Knicks are in a
stretch where they will play seven of
eight on the road. ... The Cavs'
previous biggest win over New York was
by 25 on Jan. 8, 2005. ... D'Antoni
hopes G Nate Robinson (strained groin)
will be able to play Friday in Atlanta.
Robinson has missed the last four games.
Knicks F Jared Jeffries, who has missed
the entire season because of a broken
left fibula, could also return to face
the Hawks. ... Knicks G Cuttino Mobley,
acquired from the Clippers on Nov. 21,
will see another specialist for
additional tests on the heart condition
that has kept him sidelined since the
trade, D'Antoni said. Made by NBA TV.

Grizzlies vs Hawks
Description:
ATLANTA(AP) Josh Smith wasted no time
asserting himself after missing the past
12 games with an ankle sprain. The
Atlanta Hawks' fourth-year forward stole
a pass from Memphis rookie O.J. Mayo a
few seconds after tip-off, passing to
Joe Johnson for an easy layup. "I knew
I had to do something early just to get
myself established in the game,'' Smith
said. "I definitely wanted to start on
the defensive end, and being able to
come up with that steal off the tip was
key.'' Johnson scored 26 points, and
Mike Bibby had 20 points and 10 assists
in the Atlanta Hawks' 105-95 victory
over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday
night. The Hawks, who have won three of
four and five of seven, benefited from
Smith's 14 points, six rebounds, five
assists, four turnovers and one blocked
shot in 28 minutes. "He spreads the
floor and then when he gets the rebound
he brings it up, and we were able to
penetrate and make plays,'' Johnson
said. "I think it makes us a tougher
team to defend.'' Rudy Gay finished
with 16 points and 10 rebounds as
Memphis dropped its season-worst seventh
straight. Losing their 11th in 12 games,
the Grizzlies trailed by 26 on Johnson's
3-pointer at the 5:44 mark of the third
quarter. But Memphis went on a 34-14
run to close within six to make it 88-82
on Hakim Warrick's dunk with 6:37
remaining. Warrick, a reserve forward,
led the Grizzlies with 20 points. Kyle
Lowry came off the bench to add a
season-high 17. "We had to play with
pride tonight,'' Gay said. "We didn't
want to just roll over or this team.
It's still a disappointing loss because
of the emphasis we put on defense the
last few days. Our second lineup did
very well. With that lineup we run, we
score and we get easy buckets. Our bench
came up big for us tonight.'' Mike
Conley twice cut the lead to seven
points in the fourth quarter, the second
time coming with 7:52 remaining, but
Bibby answered 16 seconds later with a
3-pointer to make it 88-78. "I think in
the third quarter we didn't come out
with energy like we needed to stay in
the game,'' Conley said. "The guys off
the bench came in with a lot of energy.
They were diving for balls, running the
floor and executing on offense. I think
everyone fed off their energy
tonight.'' Smith played for the first
time since the Hawks' 6-0 start,
returning to face an opponent that
signed him to a five-year, $58 million
offer sheet that Atlanta matched in
August. He was pleased that his ankle
was strong enough to let him dunk. "It
felt good,'' Smith said. "No problems.
To be able to get some explosion
(comparable to) early on before I got
hurt.'' O.J. Mayo, the third overall
draft pick, had 11 points, nearly 16
under his average of what he had in
Memphis' past five games, but the
performance was enough to make him the
third rookie to begin his career with 18
straight games in double
figures. Notes: New Jersey's Keith Van
Horn scored in double figures over his
first 18 games in 1997-98. Lamar Odom
set the longest streak to begin a rookie
career at 19 games with the Los Angeles
Clippers in '99. ... The Hawks have won
five straight over Memphis. ... Javaris
Crittenton, an Atlanta native and former
Georgia Tech standout drafted 19th
overall last year by the Los Angeles
Lakers and traded to Memphis 10 months
ago in the Pau Gasol deal, went 0-for-2
from the field in 6 minutes. Copyright

Toronto Raptors vs Atlanta Hawks Nov.29/08
Description:
Late in the fourth quarter Friday and
with the game's outcome still in doubt,
a fired-up Chris Bosh was fouled on a
basket, letting out a loud roar and
flexing his arms as he walked up the
court. The Toronto Raptors captain may
have been late in arriving Friday, but
he certainly let his presence be
known. Bosh arrived just 45 minutes
before tipoff Friday after being stuck
in the elevator of his condo for 50
minutes, but he shrugged off any
pre-game rust as the game wore on,
scoring 30 points and grabbing 10
rebounds to lead the Raptors to a 93-88
win over the Atlanta Hawks. ``That kind
of threw me off. . . just the little
routine I always do,'' Bosh said
afterward. ``Usually I get here, get my
muscles warmed up, go out there and get
some shots before the pre-game speech,
but I didn't have time for any of that.
Just got here and just got straight to
the point.'' Jason Kapono added 16
points for the Raptors (8-7), who were
playing their second straight game
without starting centre Jermaine O'Neal
(ankle). Joey Graham added 11 points,
while Jamario Moon finished with
10. Mike Bibby had 24 points to top the
Hawks (9-6), while Joe Johnson finished
with 17. Bosh, who's enjoying a career
season in the NBA, nearly had a
triple-double, adding seven assists
despite his pre-game
misadventures. Bosh was stuck on the
28th floor of his building, and tried
unsuccessfully to pry the door open,
spending almost the next hour on the
elevator with two strangers. ``I was
just heading to the game and the
elevator stopped and I sat and reflected
on life, and just chilled,'' Bosh said,
laughing. Bosh had just 10 points in
the first half Friday, although the
Raptors still managed to assemble a
12-point lead on some strong shooting by
Kapono and plenty of energy from Graham.
After one of a couple of dunks by the
athletic Graham, the crowd of 19,200 at
the Air Canada Centre chanted his
name. ``I did (hear it),'' Graham said.
``It sounded really good, they can do
that any time.'' ``When guys are
playing well fans have short memories,''
Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said on the
Graham chant. ``Your hometown fans, they
want players to do well. They want to
cheer for their home team. And it's the
second game in a row that he has been
using his athleticism and running. He is
playing with a lot of confidence and it
was good for him.'' The Raptors let the
lead slip away though and allowed the
visitors to take over for most of the
third quarter, before Toronto found
another gear to take a 69-65 lead into
the final 12 minutes. A three-pointer by
Kapono stretched Toronto's lead to eight
points with 4:28 left on the clock, but
the visitors chipped away at the
advantage again until Bibby's second
consecutive basket made it a three-point
game with 1:03 left. Bosh grabbed a big
rebound with 18 seconds to go then
Kapono drained a pair of free throws to
secure Toronto its second straight
victory as the Raptors wrapped up their
four-game home stand with two wins and
two losses. ``He's playing very good,
he's an all-star and he's playing at
such a high level,'' Hawks coach Mike
Woodson said of Bosh. ``He's a tough
matchup for any big in our league on
both ends of the floor. He's playing
fantastic.'' The Raptors bench, which
hadn't fared well so far this season
until Friday, outscored Atlanta
33-23. ``Those guys are starting to get
comfortable, starting to find
themselves,'' Bosh said. ``We need every
member of this year, I want them to
continue to play with confidence, and
keep doing the things they've been
doing.''
